What do we do on our days off?  Take a kite and a blanket to the park and and spend some time relaxing under the sun.  We determined on this afternoon adventure that I am not much of a kite flying expert.  My theory is that you run and the kite will fly.  I spent a lot of time running and just about as much time untangling the kite string.  Brett took over kite duty and got our orange koi fish to fly.

Australia to Bali to San Diego.  Tash and Chris were legally married in Australia where they live before heading off to Bali for a beautiful destination wedding.  We met up with this creative couple in San Diego where they had planned a fun wedding celebration for Chris’s friends and family at the House of Blues.  Having done the traditional celebration already, Tash and Chris did the cutest thing and got ready together in their suite at the Andez.  It was really fun to see Tash adjusting Chris’s bow tie and suspenders, and all the smiles given back and forth as they put on their shoes.

The day had a very relaxed and easy going feel.  So after getting ready, the four of us headed off for a photo adventure walk around downtown.  It didn’t take us long to happen upon the famous Vin De Syrah in the Gaslamp district.  This was a great time to get out of the warm sun and for the two of them to grab a pint together.  The decor in this “down the rabbit hole” bar was a perfect match for Tash and Chris’s attire.  In contrast to Vin De Syrah, Tash also wanted photos at a dive bar.  The nice bartenders at Vin recommended Star Bar just across the street.  It was even more fitting when it also turned out to be one of Chris’s old hangouts.  This awesome little dive bar was loaded with regulars and bursting with character.  They had a quick beer together for photos and we were off to the House of Blues to meet up with all their friends.

It turns out that Chris is friends with a number of the members that make up the band Londons Falling.  They came out on the House of Blues stage and played a rocking set to welcome our couple and their guests to the floor.  The night was filled with memorable speeches, a pinyata cake in place of a pastry one, and their cousin dancing out the entire history of dance for everyone.

Cheers Tash and Chris!  We can’t wait to come see you guys out on your island sometime!

Sweet Cheeks Baking put together a delicious looking cupcake spread for San Diego Style Weddings Magazine at the Hyatt Regency on Mission Bay.  We loved Sweet Cheeks use of natural wood branches with beautiful metal platters to make up the structure for their cupcake table.  The whole set up felt very enchanted with the moss and forest elements.  I wouldn’t have been surprised to see  little faries dancing among the cupcakes.  I think this set up would make for a beautiful center piece on a very grand table, with the best part being it’s edible treats.

Typically when one sees the words court house and wedding together in one sentence we have a specific picture form in our minds, but this is not that court house and not that wedding.  The Old Blanco County Courthouse building has been used for many different purposes including a school, the old court house and is now offices on the ground floor and weddings and receptions on the top floor.  The old court house is a beautiful building with tremendous high ceilings and amazing window light.  There are two unique curved stair cases leading up to the upper level that make for wonderful photos, but they also have an elevator making it easier for elder guests and no one has to haul florals up and down the stairs.

Jeff and Kelsey set up their reception site at Jeff’s Aunt and Uncle’s ranch just 15 minutes from the court house.  It was important to Jeff and Kelsey to  spend as much time with their family and guests as possible because so many people were flying in from out of town.  A first look was exactly what they were looking for to maximize their reception time.  The beautiful old building set the perfect scene for Jeff and Kelsey’s first look.
