Yearly Archives: 2010

In La Jolla it has been a very wet and dreary October so far. This is very uncharacteristic for San Diego. Usually this time of year we are still wearing our bathing suits and enjoying the sun us as we drive around in our convertible. This year has been strange and Winter never quite loosened its grip on us. In honor of this rainy day I wanted to share 3 things Brett and I each love to do when the clouds bless us with their showers.

3 of my favorite things about rainy days:

– Siting down with a steaming cup of Earl Gray tea and listening to the tapping of rain hitting the windows.

– Wearing my rain boots and splashing in puddles.

– Watching the dogs prance around the yard trying desperately not to get their feet to wet.

3 of Brett’s favorite things to do when it rains:

– Drive around empty parking lots using the assistance of his emergency break. ( I only hear about it because he does it when I’m not in the car)

– Find big mud puddles to drive his truck through. (are you sensing a theme here?)

– Walk around without an umbrella and feel the rain drops on his head and shoulders.

I’m curious to hear what your favorite things are about rainy days… Enjoy the weather, and stay dry.  Unless your like Brett and enjoy walking in the rain.

Here are some fun pics that Maggie and I took the last time it rained….

On this wonderfully wet day, I pulled on my rain boots, dressed Maggie in a sweater and dragged Brett out for some pictures.  Honestly I look for any excuse to wear my rain boots.  If a neighbor left his sprinklers on to long and large puddles appeared on the sidewalk, I would be up for putting on the rain boots and taking advantage of the broken sprinklers.  Fortunately and unfortunately that never happens.  Today was a legitimate rain boot day, and Maggie and I went splashing in puddles.

Poor Maggie got to close to the splashing.

I heart rain boots and puddles!

From Maggie’s point of view I must look pretty funny.

Wet doggie!

Drying off in the car.

We had so much fun shooting with Bill and Crystal at Belmont Park, in Pacific Beach. This lovely couple is from Arizona and they made a special trip out to come enjoy sunny San Diego and to run around with us for an engagement shoot. Bill and Crystal met about five years ago through some mutual friends. After meeting, Bill decided to make himself a regular at her restaurant to get to know her a little better. Flash forward to three years later and he uncharacteristically proposed to her one night on the couch while watching TV. He basically said “are we going to do this, or what? Chrystal being who she was made him ask again and they finally decided to go for it. Without even discussing it before hand they both decided on 10/10/10 as their wedding date. Great minds really do think alike.

We started our afternoon with Bill and Crystal by moseying along the beach side alley ways of Mission beach, where we found the biggest Tiki head I’ve ever seen and of course had to take some pictures with him. Later in the afternoon, once the crowds had died down a little we hit up the famous Belmont Park. I have to say that we were all looking forward to a harrowing ride on the bumpy old roller coaster. We discovered upon our arrival that it was broken! In all my years of frequenting Belmont Park I have never once seen the roller coaster not running. It was quite a disappointment. But we lifted all our spirits with bumper cars and arcade games.

Thank you Bill and Crystal for such a fun Photo day! You two are so much fun and we can’t wait to get more great pictures on your special day!

We met Ashley and Bryant only a few days before their departure from San Diego.  They have enjoyed their last couple years in sunny San Diego but were excited to move to Salt Lake City where they would be closer to their families.  They wanted a nice reminder of this beautiful city they had grown so fond of, and what better way to remember the good times than with pictures of their favorite places.  Ashley and Bryant were frequent guests of the Coronado Ferry landing, getting a drink at Peonies and watching the boats come in and out of the harbor, or sitting lazily on the grass enjoying the warm weather.  We thought it would be quite fitting to capture them doing the things they enjoyed most at this beautiful spot.  Ashley and Bryant we had such a great time hanging out with you in your last days in San Diego, and we hope that you are falling in love with your new city as much as you did with San Diego!
